Card 10. Joy

Card 10.

Happiness. Joy. Pleasure.

Seven things I love that brings me Joy because seven is my favourite number.

  1. Spending time with my children and grandchildren.
  2. Being by the sea.
  3. Walking outdoors
  4. Creative hobbies
  5. Drinking tea
  6. Feeling a connection with Spirit
  7. Birds and bird song
This little Robin filled me with Joy.

There’s a lot more things that make me happy however these came to mind and are enough to be getting on with.

On completion of card number 10 Joy, I loved the colours and they reminded me of French skipping we did at school when I was in middle primary. I don’t know if children still do French skipping or not. We loved it, it was all the rage for a while. One thing I loved about it was the colours of the elastic bands that we tied together, there was different games, Cats Eyes is one I remember, and being of course a lover of Colour. those memories of French Skipping can still bring me feelings of joy.

This card has a feeling of the sun beams coming through, and indicates happier times coming into your life. It also asks the question what is it that makes you feel that Joy in your life? Do you need to take action steps to bring more Happiness, Joy and Pleasure into your life? We can’t be happy all of the time however as we notice, appreciate and give thanks for the times that we do feel happiness and Joy, it helps to bring more of this positive energy into our lives.

It was interesting to discover that I was feeling a block arising in me when I started to think about what to write. Then I got the guidance from Spirit to “not” think and just let it flow, which is how I am approaching it, it’s working.

I find more and more in my life now that it’s the simple things in life that make me feel happiest, like the little birds I mentioned in my list of seven above. I also feel happy when I have accomplished something that feels worthwhile, like the Flower of life Oracle deck,  Flower of Life Oracle Cards , ( still a work in progress) then again it could be something as simple and mundane as having cleaned the bathroom, or hanging out my washing on the line.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition of Joy – great pleasure and happiness.  Pleasure – A feeling of happy satisfaction and enjoyment. Happy – Feeling or showing pleasure.  It’s interesting that the origin of the word ‘Happiness’ from Old Norse is ‘Luck’  You get the saying ‘happy go lucky’  a state of mind free of worry.

Joy is a state of being that allows one to experience feelings of intense, long-lasting happiness and satisfaction of life. It is closely related to, and often evoked by, well-being, success, or good fortune. Happiness, pleasure, and gratitude are closely related to joy but are not identical to.

Laughter is a typical expression of Joy

As you can see the three words Happiness, Joy and Pleasure are all very much related.

According to Aristotle “Happiness depends on ourselves” to a great degree I would say this is true. However there are times in life when happiness can seem out of reach. I love Jane Austen’s quote about Happiness from Sense and Sensibility

“I wish as well as every body else to be perfectly happy; but, like every body else it must be in my own way.”

It appears to be a huge subject and I would say very subjective. We all find happiness in our own ways, as Jane states in her quote above. I can find Joy by sitting in stillness and meditating, and by dancing around the kitchen to a song that comes on the radio, two polar opposites there.

Some colours in card number 10, yellow and orange, which when related to the chakra system brings in Joy and Pleasure. Orange for Pleasure in the Sacral and Joy in the Solar Plexus with the Yellow. The blue in this card I feel is associated with free expression and communication. The yellow around the circumference indicates the rays of the sun. The lime green, new and happy beginnings. I love this quote from a favourite poet of mine.

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi https://www.rumi.org.uk
