The fascinating world of colour

I’m a Colour Therapist. It was no coincidence that I chose to learn more about the world of colour. I have created a beautiful deck of forty four colour cards in the most vibrant colours, you can view some of them in here A selection from The Flower of Life Colour Oracle  I could talk about the subject all day long.

I grew up in the generation of black and white television so you can imagine the excitement of seeing a coloured television for the first time. I remember watching Come Dancing on a Saturday night in the 60’s where we would guess what colour the dresses were that the dancers were wearing.

I remember the bluebells in our garden from a very young age, they were blue mostly, some pink and white too. I loved when they flowered.

This was a sign summer was coming. We had deep purple geranium bushes too which I loved. They came all the way from the Orkney Isles with my Aunt.

Along the road a short distance from my home was a garden that really came alive every summer, it had abundance of bright orange marigolds. The garden was covered in them.

I would stop to admire them on my way to the shop or school. Orange being my favourite colour at that time. I still love orange, however there are different colours I’m drawn to now as well. I’m sure at this time in my childhood I was getting colour healing from all of those marigolds.

At the other end of our road was the most stunningly beautiful garden. It was really like a piece of heaven. Everyone admired it and commented what a great job he did. The gentleman took great pride in it.

I would stop to admire it every time I walked past, soaking up all of the colours, it was mesmerising.

I especially loved the Livingstone Daises with all of their vibrant colours and how they opened right up in the sunshine.

At around age 11 when I worked my first summer in a cafe- in the early 70s you could. I saved a little money to give to a relative to buy me a skirt and jumper for going back to school as she was going to the mainland. We had no big stores on the Shetland Islands. She brought me back a lovely navy flared skirt and an orange and yellow jumper. It couldn’t have been a more perfect colour for me. I wore that same jumper on two yearly school photos.

I’ve often thought since I learned more about colour and the Archangels, how the blue related to Archangel Michael and the Orange to Archangel Metatron. Colour is a vast topic to cover, however I will endeavour to share some if the basics of colour healing. Colour healing is an ancient form of what’s classed as Vibrational Medicine, like Reiki, Crystal Healing or sound healing for example

The ancient Egyptians knew of the power and influence of colour, in many of their great Temples, notably Heliopolis, they built healing halls of colour. A person who needed healing would go into the temple, and was placed in the colour healing room.

A little about the science on colour.

Colour energy comes to the earth in the form of electro – magnetic vibrations contained in white light. We only see about 40% of the electro- magnetic spectrum in the seven colours of the rainbow. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

One of the first books that I read on Colour Therapy was by Lilian Verner Bonds. Colour Healing, A practical guide to understanding the healing power of colour.

Think about what your favourite colour is and look at the qualities of that colour. As I mentioned mine was orange for many years and yellow. I’ve been more drawn to yellow lately especially yellow flowers.

Yellow is a sunny colour. It helps with communication too. It’s also a great colour to have around you if you’re studying. It helps with logical clear thinking.

We all have a colour personality type.

I found my personality type doing my Colour Therapy course.  You just add up all the numbers of your birth date then reduce to one number. An example being  22-03-1978 = 32= 5 – Turquoise.  Have a go at discovering your own and do some research if you want to know more.

Each colour vibrates at different frequency and even has it’s own note. I’m Violet person and my note is B. It’s no surprise really as violet people are extremely sensitive, sometimes a blessing other times a curse. We do well in any creative arts like music and writing for example. Many healers operate under the violet ray.

At different times in our lives we can be drawn to or repelled by certain colours.

This can tell a lot about a client coming for a colour healing or reading. One client who came to me disliked the colour brown. I asked if they had a desire to stand in their own two feet or to stand out as an individual? The answer was “Yes”.

Colour likes and dislikes are so revealing. I can recommend any of Lilian Verner-Bonds books on colour. I own The Complete Book of Colour Healing and Colour Healing. A practical guide to the healing power of colour, they’re both great! https://www.worldofbooks.com

Colour is also related to the Chakra system.

Chakras are energy vortices or wheels of spinning energy that run from the crown of your head to the base of your spine. There are seven main chakras. There is more higher vibrational chakras also but I’ll say a little about the seven and their related colours.

Red – Base or Root (at base of spine or tail bone)

Our strength and Vitality.

Passion and drive. Basic survival and how we provide for ourselves.

Feeling safe and secure. Being grounded.

Orange – Sacral (Below belly button)

Creativity. Pleasure. Lively. Vitality.

Relationships. The shock absorber.

Yellow – Solar Plexus (above the belly button)

The seat of our personality power.

Appreciating yourself as a person and with what you do in life.

We store our emotions on this area.

An affirmation for the solar plexus ” I am the creator of my own life, and I have the power to manifest my dreams and desires.”

Green – Heart Centre

Your ability to love unconditionally, be compassionate and sympathetic, depending on how open your Heart is.

Heartaches can close the heart to a degree as we heal.

Blue – Throat Chakra

Where we express ourselves and our creativity.

Blocks in this area may mean we are not fully communicating our needs or expressing what we would wish.

It’s also about speaking up about our opinions and beliefs.

Indigo – Brow or 3rd eye (located in the brow between the eyebrows)

Where we perceive beyond the five senses. Intuition, inner knowing.

Being more open minded.

Trusting yourself and others.

Using your power wisely.

Violet – Crown

Where we connect to Spirit and that desire to find deeper meaning in our lives.

To be of service in our work. Colour plays a significant role in our lives. It has the power to evoke emotions, influence moods, and even impact our overall well-being. From the vibrant hues of a sunset to the soothing shades of nature, colours hold a special place in our hearts. Just like the chakras, each colour carries its own energy and symbolism. Embracing the beauty of colour allows us to express ourselves.

Be adventurous with colour, it can open up a new way of looking at the world.

” The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you” Coco Chanel

Take a look in your wardrobe, which colours are missing?

What new colour could you introduce?

It could be a scarf  for instance in a new colour, or pair of socks if the colour feels too ‘out there.’ This way you are getting the benefit of the new colour, we absorb colour through the clothes we wear and the colours of the food we eat too.

If you are interested in having your own colour reading, please leave me a message.
